HIDALGO, Texas – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2-0) gave Maine Red Claws (2-1) their first loss of the season after a 152-128 win. Kyle Wiltjer reported a double double for the Vipers with 33 points and 11 rebounds.
Wiltjer lead the RGV Vipers with 33 points and 11 rebounds. Isaiah Taylor finished the game with nine assists, just one assist shy of also collecting a double-double with his 23 points. Jalen Jones finished as the top scorer for Maine Red Claws with 27 points.
The first quarter saw both teams go on a scoring spree without any team distancing themselves from each other. The opening quarter had 10 lead changes with the Red Claws having a seven-point lead at one time.
The first half finished 70-73 with Maine on top over the home team. Kyle Wiltjer led the Vipers with 26 points at half while Jalen Jones led Maine Red Claws with 21 points.
The Vipers got hot on the third quarter and found separation from their opponent. RGV’s PJ Hairston scored 11 points in the third quarter; nine of those points came from three-point shots. Jarvis Threatt added another 10 points for the Vipers in the third quarter. Threat shot 1-1 from beyond the three-point and was 3 for 3 on the free throw line. The Third quarter ended 110-93.
Rio Grande Valley scored 42 points in the fourth to extend their lead. Le’Bryan Nash had 13 points in the final quarter and helped the Vipers finish of the game with a 152-128 win.
The RGV Vipers will hit the road for the first time this season and face Los Angeles D-Fenders on Thursday, November 17 and Santa Cruz Warriors on Friday, November 18.
