HIDALGO, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Vipers, NBA D-League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, defeated Reno Bighorns 114-103 after scoring 34 points in the fourth quarter.
Gary Payton II led the Vipers in scoring with 23 points. JP Tokoto had a double-double on the night. Tokoto scored 22 points, scoring nine field goals from 11 attempts, and had 10 rebounds. Kyle Wiltjer had a double-double as well with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Tokoto had a strong opening quarter. He scored on all five of his attempts, finishing with 11 points. The Vipers finished the first quarter on top 25-22. Kyle Wiltjer repeated Tokoto’s antics and scored 11 points in the second quarter to help the Vipers finish the first half with a 58-54 lead.
Reno limited the home team to 22 points in the third quarter while scoring 29 themselves. The BigHorns entered the last quarter of the game with 83-80 lead over Rio Grande Valley. The Vipers scored five three-pointers in the final quarter. Darrius Morris had 11 points in the quarter to help seal the 114-103 win.
Reno’s Malachi Richardson led both teams in scoring with 32 points in the game. Lamar Patterson had 12 rebounds in the match and Isaiah Cousins had six assists.
