SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Stars, the D-League affiliate of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 103-95 in the second game of a back-to-back. The Vipers had four players score in double-digits, led by Darius Morris’ team-high 27 points.
The Stars (3-11) played an energetic opening period, leading Rio Grande Valley (11-5) 27-23 after the first quarter on 50 percent shooting from the field. The Vipers responded to take a 51-49 lead at halftime. By then, Jazz assignee Joel Bolomboy had already registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He would finish with a game- and season-high 28 points, 19 rebounds and six blocked shots.
After rallying to take the lead 76-70 after the third quarter, the Stars continued their strong play to take the victory, their third of the season.
Jermaine Taylor came off the bench to score 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting with a game high three three-pointers made.
The Stars have scored 100-plus points in four of the past six games and improve to 3-3 when scoring over the century mark. Salt Lake City has also held its opponents to less than 100 points in three of the past four games, including a season-high three straight, after doing so three times the first nine games of the season.
