Des Moines, Iowa (Dec. 27, 2016) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (12-7) outscored the Iowa Energy (2-15) 39-17 in the first quarter as they breezed past the Energy 139-115 Tuesday night in the first nationally televised, regular season home game in franchise history.
The Vipers shot a blistery 59.6% from the field, including 8-16 from deep.
Troy Williams, on assignment from the Memphis Grizzlies, recorded a game-high 32 points and three steals on 12-17 (70.6%) shooting from the field.
Wayne Selden Jr. added 20 points in his first start for Iowa since getting injured on Dec. 10.
After giving up 82 first half points, the Energy outscored the Vipers 59-57 in the final two quarters.
Wade Baldwin IV chipped in 17 points and Jakarr Sampson added 18 for the Energy. Sampson and Baldwin each made eight free throws in the loss.
The Energy begin a five-game road trip this Thursday with a rematch against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
