Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Erie BayHawks (7-22) fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (18-10) this afternoon 125-132 despite tying their previous season-high for points.
The BayHawks shot 59 percent from the field and 55 percent from behind the three-point line in the first to score 64 points in the half. Branden Dawson and Stephen Zimmerman combined for 35 points in the half.
Erie continued to shoot well into the third, including a nine-to-two run midway through the quarter that would extend the BayHawks’ lead to 17 but Fort Wayne would storm back in the fourth. Led by 29 points from Ben Bentil in the second half, the Mad Ants outscored the BayHawks 70-61 to force overtime. The BayHawks failed to grab any points in the ensuing overtime and the Mad Ants took the win.
The BayHawks were led by a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds to go with five steals from Dawson. Despite an ejection with under 2:00 to play in the game, Zimmerman posted 22 points and seven rebounds. Gabe York added 22, including 14 in the second half, seven rebounds, and four assists. Kalin Lucas had 19 off the bench.
The Mad Ants were led by a game-high 31 from Bentil, all coming in the second half and overtime. Travis Leslie added 27 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Jordan Loyd and Jarrod Uthoff each had 15 points.
