SAN ANTONIO — The Austin Spurs (19-21), presented by SWBC, defeated the Delaware 87ers (22-19) 102-93 Thursday night at the AT&T Center. Austin hosted a crowd of over 7,000 at the home of the San Antonio Spurs.
Orlando Johnson paced the Spurs with 23 points (8-14 FG, 2-3 3FG, 5-5 FT), 5 rebounds and 5 assists in 36 minutes, while Charles Garcia chipped in 22 points (9-12 FG, 4-5 FT) and 9 rebounds in 25 minutes. Livio Jean-Charles posted 16 points (7-13 FG, 2-2 FT) and 17 rebounds in 34 minutes. Along with recording his third double-double of the season, Jean-Charles also made seven blocks, the most of a Spurs player in a game this season.
The game started off neck-and-neck with six ties and two lead changes in the first quarter. The Spurs were never up more than four points, but were able to go into the second ahead 29-27. The Spurs pulled away at the start of the second on a 16-3 run. Holding the 87ers to only 15 points in the quarter, they headed into the half 62-42.
The Spurs’ lead continued to hover around 20 for the majority of the third quarter, both teams shooting under 40% from the field. The 87ers began their comeback campaign in the fourth on a 12-0 run with six minutes left in the quarter. They were able to cut their deficit to five, but the Spurs would hang on for the win.
For the 87ers, Aaron Harrison finished with 23 points and 3 rebounds in 40 minutes, while Carlos Lopez posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes.
