RENO, Nev. – The Reno Bighorns (15-18) defeated to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (24-18) 116-102 Monday Night at the Reno Events Center.
David Stockton led the Bighorns with 30 points, three rebounds and five assists while Sacramento Kings Affiliate Player Isaiah Cousins tallied 19 points, five rebounds and two assists during the Monday night contest. Kendall Marshall recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 15 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds.
Alex Poythress paced the Mad Ants with 23 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Marquis Teague notched 21 points and two rebounds.
The teams kept the score within five points of each other during the opening minutes of the first frame with the Bighorns holding a three point advantage over the Mad Ants at the 6:00 mark. The Bighorns went on a 9-0 run triggered by a lay-up from Luis Montero to extend their lead to 11 with 3:13 to play in the first quarter. The Bighorns kept Fort Wayne at bay the remainder of the frame having a 34-27 lead going into the second frame.
The second quarter saw Reno maintain a comfortable lead behind a 42.9% team shooting effort and leading by as many as 18. Pe’Shon Howard gave the Bighorns a boost with eight points behind a 3-3 shooting effort, enabling a 14-point cushion entering the break.
Reno maintained their double-digit advantage coming out of the break holding a 13 point lead at the mid-way point of the third frame. The Mad Ants got within striking distance cutting their deficit to eight with 3:06 remaining in the quarter. Fort Wayne outscored the Bighorns 33-29 in the third frame.
The Mad Ants opened the final frame with threes from Travis Leslie, Nick Zeisloft and Teague to make it a seven point game with 9:15 left in play. The teams remained scoreless for over two minutes before the Bighorns rallied going on a 17-8 run to opening their lead to 14 points with 2:33 in play. The Bighorns would not relinquish the lead the remainder of the game to secure a 116-102 victory over the Mad Ants.
