BROOKLYN – The Long Island Nets (15-28) topped the Westchester Knicks (16-26) 123-99 at Barclays Center today. The Nets are now 2-0 in their season series with the Knicks, with two contests left to play in Westchester this season.
Cliff Alexander led Long Island with a double-double off the bench, recording a team-high 27 points and a game-high-tying 13 rebounds in 26 minutes. R.J. Hunter scored 23 points with two rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in 29 minutes, while J.J. Moore added 20 points and five rebounds in 33 minutes.
The Nets led the Knicks by as many as 26 points and outscored Westchester 62-50 in points in the paint and 33-16 in fast break points on the afternoon. Long Island also edged the Knicks 30-21 in assists and outrebounded Westchester 50-43 in the victory.
Long Island jumped out to a fast start, shooting 60.0 percent from the field to take a 34-27 lead after the first quarter. Hunter paced Long Island with 12 first-quarter points on 5-of-9 shooting.
The Nets continued to shoot well in the second quarter (60.9 percent) and outscored the Knicks 36-21 to hold a 70-48 lead going into halftime. John Jenkins starred for the Knicks in the first half, scoring 21 points in 19 minutes, while Hunter led Long Island with 19.
The Knicks attempted a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Nets 27-22, but Long Island held strong and put together a 31-point fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Jenkins led the Knicks with 40 points (15-of-30 FG, 2-of-4 3FG, 8-of-9 FT) in 39 minutes, while Keith Wright added a double-double for Westchester with 16 points and 13 rebounds in 37 minutes.
