Hidalgo, Texas, March 21, 2017 – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (29-18), NBA D-League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, lost to Oklahoma City Blue (32-15) 118-104.
RGV’s Jaron Johnson had 27 points in the game. Reggie Williams was the leading scorer for the Blue with 26 points. Daniel Hamilton recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and 14 points.
The Vipers and the Blue kept it close in the opening quarter finishing 25-26 with Oklahoma City on top. Alex Caruso was perfect from beyond the three-point line in the first quarter going 2-2 and totaling 8 points in the game. Jaron Johnson scored eight as well for the Vipers.
Oklahoma City started finding separation in the second quarter. The Blue outscored the Vipers 37-21 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 17 points.
The Vipers put up a big performance in the third quarter to cut Oklahoma City’s lead. Jaron Johnson’s eight points in the third quarter sparked the Viper’s offense that only trailed by four points after the third quarter, 84-88.
The Vipers struggled to keep the momentum going in the final quarter of the game. Reggie Williams went off for 11 points in the final minutes of the game. After shooting at 50 percent from the three-point line, Oklahoma City Blue defeated the vipers 104-118.
